I was reading this article today posted by Orlando Health, and I thought that it had a lot of great tips about how to prevent injury when walking your dog.  The dogs that I walk all have one thing in common, they can be unpredictable!  Whether its catching the site of a squirrel out of the corner of their eye or deciding that they absolutely must cross the street right now to get to a good sniff - it is important to be ready for anything.  The best offense here is a good defense, keep your head on a swivel and pay attention to your surroundings.  Do not let your pet take you by surprise when they see something, make sure that you are not too distracted to be in charge and keep you both safe.

I saw a woman walking her senior dog the other day, she was Facetiming with someone and not really paying attention to her surroundings.  Well her dog saw a rabbit, the rabbit darted across the road and the dog lunged to go after it.  The woman wasn't ready, and when the dog lunged she dropped the leash - there was a near miss with a car. Oh my, I felt sick to my stomach.  That poor driver, who thankfully was paying attention, and stopped in time. But he was visibly upset and the dog's owner just started yelling at the dog.  It was ALL preventable and the outcome could have been much worse.  Don't let this be you and your fuzzy family member!

Summer is here and in case you haven't noticed its busier than ever around town - and it seems that just about everyone has a furry friend these days.  I am an animal lover, so I love to see those happy faces - walking around the parks.  I have received a few phone calls this week of people not only looking for pet sitting services but inquiring into local veterinarians.  It looks like our local vet offices are busier than ever and some have even stopped taking on new patients. 

With that in mind, please call around and arrange a local vet for your furry family member now - before you have a real need.  I have sadly watched many of my clients only have the option of the local emergency rooms in Salisbury and Lewes, when they needed a simple vet visit.  No one wants to pay the extra money for an emergency visit or drive that far for service.  Also, don't discount the SPCA in Georgetown - they have great vet facilities and very reasonable pricing. I volunteered there for a bit and they are such a good group of people!

I thought that this article was interesting: Zillow and Rover's Top Emerging Dog-Friendly Cities for 2021. We are pretty dog-friendly here as well.  So many parks and walking paths, pet friendly beaches and bay areas, even some outdoor restaurants that allow your furry friend.
